Behind the Scenes of "The Avengers" - HULK SMASH!!!
Hulk smash, indeed, my friends. Hulk smash, indeed.
Terminator 5 to start in 2013
Cool that Arnie is doing another Terminator film. Also cool is the fact that it will tie in to the uber-shitty TERMINATOR: SLAVATION. Sure that movie wad'nt all dat, but the fact that it isn't being ignored solidifies the universe, I think. The only thing missing from the next pic: JIMMY CAMERON!!! Although Johnny Mostow isn't that bad if Cameron ain't available.

New photo of JUDGE DREDD in "DREDD" (2012)
I like the Stallone movie. Have a soft spot for Steven E. DeSouza scripted movies. It isn't a good movie, mind you. I just like it. This, hopefully, can at least be stored in the "disposable fun" category as opposed to the "Craptacular" category upon its release.

REVIEW: "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" (2011)
I love it when Tom Cruise runs. The man can hero-run like nobody's business, what with that determined "Tom Cruise look" on his face, square-jawed and furrow-browed, just ready to whoop some ass all mediocre-like in the way only Tom Cruise can. His feet are a blur; his hands are straightened into knife-edge chops that cut through reality itself. This, naturally, is best accomplished with some ILM-induced spectacle of danger just seconds behind our precious Mr. Cruise. Whether it's an exploding helicopter, robot aliens, a crumbling bridge, etc., one can rest assured that good ol' Maverick will just run straight from it like a merciless T-1000 in pursuit of Sarah, John, and Ah-nuld himself.
I also love spy movies. The more ridiculous, the better. Sure, a realistic sense of peril and espionage is always welcome (especially if it's by Paul Greengrass, and he's gettin' his vérité on.) But I would give up any sense of realism in exchange for a rocket pack, invisibility cloak, or, God willing, Roger Moore fighting international terrorists in outer space. Hokey spy movies are good. But hokey spy movies in which Tom Cruise runs from things??! Consider me there, man. Consider me there.
I just Redboxed MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL the other night. And I think new life has been breathed into that ever-so-ailing M:I franchise. How? It's upped the "ridiculous-quotient" considerably, resulting a far more entertaining movie than the first two sequels.
Hiring a cartoon director to helm the fourth Mission:Impossible movie was a risky move...a risky move that paid off artistically and financially. Director Brad Bird brings that same sense of rapid paced, realistically-outrageous action to MI:4 that he presented in The Incredibles. And dammit, there's GADGETS GALORE in this movie! Inventive, tense, and funny action sequences are abound in Ghost Protocol, involving a balloon spy-cam (!), an invisibility screen (!!), and (hell f'n yeah), SUCTION-CUP GLOVES(!!!) And Brad Bird's sense of timing, favoring long cuts over short jumps for much of the action, give the film a real sense of danger for Tom Cruise. I mean Ethan Hunt. Whoops.
Brad Bird was a good choice to direct Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
And the fact that his name sounds like it's straight out of Sesame Street doesn't hurt either. Brad Bird. Hee hee.
Ultimately Tom Cruise's Hunt is a more refined super-spy than the previous movies. He knows what to do. He cracks wise ("Mission...ACCOMPLISHED!!!"). Hunt has finally become the leader we've known he could be. He saves the day, as heroes so often do, and does it with the bravado of a gifted actor with an undeniable ability to command the screen.
He also runs from a sandstorm. He wears a hoodie, too.
So bring it on, my fellow Tom Cruise-ites!! There's nothing this man can't run from!! Falling meteorites? Why not!! Natural disasters??! Piece o' cake!! Dragons shooting tornadoes from their mouths, while a major American city crumbles behind him???! Bring it on, pal. Ol' Tommy Mapother can take it. And I'll be there, watching...
...and smiling.
Till next time, kiddies,
